Description

This simulation course provides Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) with education regarding criminal courtroom testimony. This course meets the courtroom observation requirements for the Texas SANE certification.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this educational activity, the nurse will indicate an increase in knowledge and confidence in providing expert testimony in a courtroom setting.

Content Warning

The content in this course necessarily discusses the sexual assault of people, which may be emotionally and intellectually challenging. We do our best to make this course a space where we can engage bravely, empathetically, and thoughtfully with difficult content. This course includes realistic portrayals of patients that have experienced sexual assault and may be triggering for some.

Non-Texas Resident: Healthcare professional who does not reside or work in a Texas healthcare facility.
Texas Resident: Healthcare professional who resides or works in a Texas healthcare facility. Proof of Texas residence or Texas employment required to register.
HRSA Grantee: Healthcare professional who has submitted an application and been approved for the HRSA Grantee program.
IHS Participant: Attending on behalf of Indian Health Service (IHS).

Delivery Modality

This is a hybrid course that includes a self-paced, online component and in-person simulation at the Brazos County Courthouse or McLennan County Courthouse. Online content must be completed at least two days before the in-person simulation. More information is provided upon registration.

Prerequisite

Learners must have completed a 40-hour minimum course covering Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) education. Our Adult/Adolescent SANE courses include:

  • Texas SANE-Forensic Education Course: Adult/Adolescent
  • SAFE Education Course: Adult/Adolescent
