Mobile Forensic Simulation Unit
The Center of Excellence in Forensic Nursing offers education “on-the-go” with a specially equipped recreational vehicle (RV) that provides simulation education in rural locations. The RV includes two examination rooms to accomodate various simulations.
Center staff, coaches and standardized patients travel to locations to provide small groups hands-on learning to develop skills necessary to deliver care to vulnerable populations. Forensic nurses seeking recertification or novice forensic nurses may take advantage of the mobile skills laboratory to refresh skills while completing two simulated cases that may be used for Texas SANE certification or recertification.
Types of mobile simulations include:
- Adult sexual assault (anogenital assessment with speculum insertion and simulated cases)
- Intimate partner violence and nonfatal strangulation assessment
- Trauma-informed communication
- Medical forensic photography
The mobile skills laboratory accommodates small groups of up to six nurses per day, depending on the type of simulations requested.
On-Site Requirements
- Asphalt or concrete parking area able to accomodate RV size of 40 feet long, 9 feet wide and 13 feet high
- Shore power hook-up (minimum of 50 amps)
