Breaking the Silence: Strengthening Men’s Health Across Tribal Communities

Waylon "Pee" Pahona Jr.

Join us for a free webinar in recognition of Men's Health Awareness Month. This session will explore the unique mental health challenges facing American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) men and examine culturally grounded approaches that support healing, resilience and well-being.

American Indian and Alaska Native men experience suicide rates nearly three times the national average, yet remain one of the most underserved populations in mental health care. Historical trauma, intergenerational grief, colonization and cultural expectations surrounding masculinity can create significant barriers to seeking support. Despite growing awareness of mental health disparities among AIAN populations, many health care providers and community members have limited knowledge of the unique factors that contribute to poor mental health outcomes among AIAN men.

This webinar will examine the impact of historical trauma, mental health stigma and culturally embedded barriers to care-seeking while highlighting strengths-based approaches that promote healing and connection. Participants will explore culturally grounded, male-centered wellness strategies, including guided visualization, breathwork and intentional movement, and learn how these practices can be incorporated into clinical and community-based settings. The session also will emphasize the value of lived experience and personal narratives as powerful tools for healing, resilience and recovery.
