Well Child

Course Description
This course provides a structured learning environment for the new Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner to become comfortable talking with and conducting a head-to-toe physical assessment with children at different developmental stages. This course meets the Well-Child Examination requirements for the Texas SANE certification.
Learning Outcome(s)
Analyze children’s vocabulary and growth and developmental stages to appropriately complete a patient medical forensic history.

Develop relationships with children and families to facilitate patient participation in the medical forensic examination.

Perform a thorough head-to-toe assessment on a pediatric patient.
Content Warning
The content in this course necessarily discusses the sexual assault of people, which may be emotionally and intellectually challenging. We do our best to make this course a space where we can engage bravely, empathetically, and thoughtfully with difficult content. This course includes realistic portrayals of patients that have experienced sexual assault and may be triggering for some.

Texas Resident Learners: Health care professionals who reside or work in a Texas health care facility. Proof of Texas residence or Texas employment will be required to register.

Non-Texas Resident: Health care professionals who do not reside or work in a Texas health care facility.

HRSA Grantee: Health care professional who has submitted an application for the HRSA Grantee program and has been approved.

IHS Participant: Attending on behalf of Indian Health Service (IHS). **Lunch pre-payment is optional for IHS participants. Please note that if learners do not pre-pay for lunch, it is their responsibility to plan accordingly. Also note that time are resources are limited for lunch availability at the simulation location.

Prerequisite

Attendees must have completed a Pediatric SANE Education course prior to enrolling in this course.

Pediatric SANE cannot be taken at the same time as the Well Child Sexual Assault Simulation course.

Anyone enrolled without meeting the prerequisite requirement will be removed from the course, and no refund will be provided.

Disclaimer

Residency will be verified. Any Texas resident who pays the HRSA Grantee fee will be removed from the course until the Texas residency fee is paid. Any non-Texas resident who pays the Texas resident fee will be removed from the course until the out of state residency fee is paid. No refunds will be offered. *HRSA Grant does not cover the cost of travel, lodging, or meal reimbursement for this course.

Cancellation, Refunds, and Transfers

Cancellation of Course

In the event Texas A&M University cancels a course, or there is a weather or disaster event, a full refund will be provided to all learners.

Refunds

If the refund request is received more than 14 days before the scheduled course/simulation, the participant will receive a 50% refund of their fees.

Refunds will not be issued if the request is received less than 14 days before the scheduled course/simulation.

Transfers – No Refund

If learners are unable to complete or attend a course, registration will be allowed to be transferred, one (1) time as a courtesy to the same course at a future date. To request transfer to a future instance of the same course, please email Texas A&M Health Center of Excellence in Forensic Nursing at forensicnursing@tamu.edu 72 hours prior to the start time of the originally scheduled course. Afterwards, no transfers will be made. Emergencies will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
